DAY 1: JOURNEY TO AKAGERA – GUIDED GAME DRIVE & SUNSET BOAT SAFARI ON LAKE IHEMA.
Your safari begins with a morning pickup from your hotel in Kigali. As you leave the bustling city behind, you’ll enjoy a scenic 2.5–3 hour drive through Rwanda’s picturesque countryside passing terraced hills, rural villages, and panoramic vistas that hint at the natural beauty to come. Upon arrival at Akagera National Park, you’ll be welcomed by the park’s diverse landscapes of rolling grasslands, woodlands, and shimmering lakes. Shortly after check-in and orientation, your first adventure begins: a guided game drive through the southern section of the park. Accompanied by an experienced guide, you’ll traverse the savannah in search of wildlife such as elephants, zebras, buffalo, giraffes, antelope, and if you're lucky, members of Akagera’s Big Five including lions and leopards. Your guide will also share fascinating insights about the park’s conservation efforts and the behavior of the animals you encounter. Midway through the game drive, you’ll pause for a picnic lunch in a designated scenic spot within the park—surrounded by nature and perhaps a few curious antelope in the distance. In the late afternoon, you'll head to Lake Ihema for a peaceful sunset boat safari. As the sun casts golden hues across the water, you’ll glide past pods of hippos, lurking Nile crocodiles, and shores teeming with waterbirds like African fish eagles, herons, and kingfishers. This tranquil experience offers a unique perspective on the park’s aquatic ecosystem and is a perfect way to unwind after your first day of exploration. As night falls, you'll arrive at the intimate and eco-friendly Ruzizi Tented Lodge, nestled on the lakeshore under a canopy of trees. Enjoy a delicious dinner prepared with fresh local ingredients, then relax by the campfire or on your private veranda, taking in the soothing sounds of the wilderness as you settle in for your first night under the stars.ACCOMMODATION |Ruzizi Tented LodgeMEALS |Lunch, Dinner

DAY 2: FULL-DAY SAFARI EXPERIENCE – MORNING AND NIGHT GAME DRIVES IN AKAGERA.
Wake up to the gentle sounds of the wild and enjoy a hearty breakfast at Ruzizi Tented Lodge, surrounded by birdsong and the rustle of leaves in the morning breeze. After breakfast, your guide will meet you for a morning game drive, this time venturing deeper into Akagera’s varied landscapes to explore lesser-traveled wildlife corridors. This drive offers a fresh opportunity to spot animals you may have missed the previous day. Keep your camera ready for sightings of impalas, topis, warthogs, baboons, and elusive predators like hyenas or even leopards. The cooler morning temperatures make it an ideal time to witness animal activity, especially around water sources and open plains. Your guide will interpret the behaviors of the animals and explain the unique dynamics of the park’s ecosystem, adding depth to every sighting. Around midday, you’ll return to the lodge for a relaxing lunch and a few hours of rest. You can choose to unwind on your veranda, take in the serene lake views, or enjoy the lodge’s comfortable amenities. This downtime provides a welcome break before your next adventure. As evening approaches, the safari continues with a thrilling night game drive, offering a completely different perspective of Akagera’s wilderness. Equipped with spotlights, your expert guide will lead you through the park after dark in search of nocturnal species rarely seen during the day. Look out for bush babies, civets, genets, owls, and perhaps a prowling leopard or lion. The experience is made even more exciting by the cloak of darkness, where every rustle in the bush could reveal a hidden predator or a curious creature on the move. After your evening adventure, you’ll make your way to Karenge Bush Camp, a seasonal eco-camp nestled in the heart of the park’s northern sector. Set in a remote and untouched corner of Akagera, Karenge offers a truly off-the-grid experience. Enjoy a delicious campfire dinner beneath the stars, and take a moment to appreciate the incredible clarity of the night sky, unspoiled by city lights. Drift off to sleep in your canvas tent, enveloped in the quiet symphony of the wild a perfect end to a day of unforgettable encounters and immersive exploration.ACCOMMODATION | Karenge Bush CampMEALS | Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Your final day in Akagera National Park begins with an early wake-up call, allowing you to make the most of the cool, active hours of the morning when wildlife is most visible. After a warm breakfast at Karenge Bush Camp, you'll set off for a full-day game drive that takes you through the park’s spectacular northern sector an area known for its wide open plains, acacia woodlands, and expansive views that stretch to the horizon. This final drive offers one last chance to encounter Akagera’s incredible biodiversity. With a bit of luck, you may spot roaming lions, herds of buffalo, elegant Masai giraffes, or even a stealthy leopard slipping through the grasslands. Bird enthusiasts will enjoy spotting colorful species like the lilac-breasted roller, saddle-billed stork, and grey-crowned crane among many others. As you travel through the park, your guide will share stories about the successful reintroduction of lions and rhinos to Akagera, making it once again home to the Big Five. You'll pause midday for a picnic lunch at one of the park’s scenic rest stops often overlooking a tranquil lake or open savannah providing the perfect setting to reflect on your safari highlights.
